Design Manager

I m currently working with a highly respected and well-established residential contractor to recruit a Design Manager for their growing technical team. The role would suit an established Design Manager with experience in construction or residential development, but I would also be keen to speak with talented architects who are looking to transition into design management and develop their career within a contractor environment.

As Design Manager, you will work closely with internal departments, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams to coordinate and manage the design process from pre-construction through to project completion. You will ensure designs are practical, compliant, commercially viable, and delivered in line with programme requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Managing and coordinating the flow of design information across multiple residential developments.
- Leading design coordination meetings with consultants, technical specialists, and internal stakeholders.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical information to identify risks, clashes, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensuring compliance with planning conditions, building regulations, statutory requirements, and project specifications.
- Supporting the delivery of buildable, cost-effective design solutions through value engineering and collaborative problem-solving.
- Monitoring design progress to ensure information is issued accurately and in line with project programmes.
- Working closely with construction, commercial, and technical teams to support successful project delivery.
- Driving best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the design process.

Requirements:

- Experience with in a Design Manager or similar role.
- Alternatively, a background in architecture with a desire to move into a design management.
- Strong understanding of construction detailing, technical design, and buildability.
- Knowledge of current building regulations and residential construction standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive, organised, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
