Junior Technical Support Engineer

Closing date: 07 July 2026.

We are looking to fill the post of a Junior Technical Support Engineer in the Medical Device Service, supporting users of medical equipment across all hospital sites within the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust.

Responsibilities
  • Support the department's maintenance, repair and sub‑contractor management of medical equipment, providing first line support to users and optimising system uptime.
  • Provide technical knowledge and support for the implementation and delivery of a long‑term operational plan for the cost‑effective and efficient management and deployment of safe medical devices across the care organisations.
  • Work towards achieving compliance levels for medical device repair and maintenance, monitoring downtime and ensuring system availability to enable clinical teams to track maintenance and repair progress.
Qualifications
  • HNC (level 4/5 BTEC) or equivalent in Electronics Engineering, or registration as a clinical technologist (RCT).
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.
Experience
  • Previous work in electronic maintenance and repair.
  • Experience working within tight time frames and to deadlines, demonstrating the ability to plan and deliver an efficient, timely service.
  • Experience dealing with the public and working in a client‑driven environment.
  • Experience working as part of a team, in isolation and training others.
  • Knowledge of the application and use of a wide range of medical devices across the complexity spectrum.
  • Supplier‑approved training on the servicing and repair of electro‑biomedical equipment used in hospitals.
Skills
  • Good numerical skills and ability to analyse data and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload with interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet the needs of the service and a positive attitude towards change.
  • Literacy to transfer information onto a computer system and standardised departmental documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to liaise with all disciplines, both on the phone, in‑person and in writing, and to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
