WSP's Building Structures team delivers capital national infrastructure projects in the Energy sector, including Transmission and Distribution, Overhead Line (OHL) systems, power stations, and other critical energy assets.

We are seeking a Technical Director to provide senior leadership in delivering structural engineering services for major energy infrastructure projects. The role involves leading project teams, managing client relationships, and driving technical excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the structural design and delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects.
  • Provide strategic input into project planning, resourcing, and risk management.
  • Deliver structural solutions for substations, transmission and distribution facilities, OHL structures, and power stations.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Contribute to business development, including bids, proposals, and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated and sustainable design solutions.
  • Support the development of best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body.
  • Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    Substations, Transmission and Distribution infrastructure, Overhead Line (OHL) projects, Power stations, Petrochemical facilities.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness and client‑facing skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
