Design Engineer

We're looking for a Design Engineer to join our Kier Design team based in Leeds.

Location: Leeds - with some agile working
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Sector: Structures & Geotechnical Engineering – rail and water

As a Design Engineer within Kier Design, you'll deliver civil and structural engineering services across a range of infrastructure projects. Working within the Structures & Geotechnical team, you'll help develop safe, buildable Permanent Works solutions, support tenders and live projects, and collaborate closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams. This role offers the opportunity to work on high‑profile schemes while progressing your career within Kier's nationally recognised in‑house consultancy.

As a Design Engineer, you'll support the structures and geotechnical team in delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. Your day‑to‑day will include:

• Design safe, buildable, cost‑effective solutions from concept to delivery
• Provide technical input to bids, offering buildable, innovative concepts
• Develop alternative designs and value engineering solutions to strengthen competitiveness
• Review and provide technical assurance of third‑party designs, ensuring compliance with client and Kier requirements
• Identify and manage technical risks across design and construction stages
• Undertake site visits, inspections, surveys and provide advice on SHE matters
• Fulfil Job Leader responsibilities, including client liaison, fee/programme input, design delivery, workload planning and compliance with Kier Quality Management Systems

• You hold a Level 6/7 qualification and are working towards professional qualification with a relevant industry body (e.g. ICE, IStructE)
• Proven experience delivering civil and structural infrastructure design
• Full UK driving licence
• Experience with rail or water sector standards
• Knowledge of WIMES or Minimum Asset Standards
• Exposure to water or wastewater treatment environments
