Salary: Circa £75,000 + £5,060 Car Allowance

Westlakes Recruit is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join a major long-term civil engineering framework supporting the delivery of critical infrastructure projects within the Sellafield nuclear site. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role on one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes, working across complex civil engineering packages within a highly regulated environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing engineering activities within their area of responsibility, coordinating construction operations, supervising engineering teams, and ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality project delivery.
Working alongside Project Managers, Works Managers, Commercial teams, Design Engineers and subcontractors, you will provide technical leadership throughout construction while ensuring programme, quality, safety and commercial objectives are achieved.
Reporting to the Works Manager, you will take ownership of engineering delivery across major civils work packages including:
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Earthworks and enabling works
- Drainage and utilities
- Structural alterations
- Infrastructure installations
- Temporary works coordination
- Multi-disciplinary subcontract works
You will also provide leadership to Site Engineers, coordinate subcontractors, manage construction sequencing and ensure engineering compliance throughout delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering delivery within your allocated section of works.
- Manage Site Engineers and provide technical guidance and mentoring.
- Coordinate construction activities with Section Foremen, subcontractors and delivery teams.
- Produce and manage detailed 3-week look-ahead programmes.
- Monitor progress against programme and develop recovery plans where required.
- Ensure engineering activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.
- Coordinate interfaces between civil, structural and temporary works.
- Review drawings and identify technical issues or design conflicts.
- Raise Technical Queries (TQs) where required.
- Ensure construction is undertaken to the latest approved design information.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with specifications.
- Coordinate engineering support for temporary works.
- Support development of engineering solutions to improve delivery.
- Procure materials required for construction activities.
- Monitor material usage and resource utilisation.
- Report wastage and recommend improvements.
- Maintain records of subcontractor scope changes.
- Provide accurate information to commercial teams regarding delays, variations and change.
- Ensure all works comply with project HSQE procedures.
- Verify permits, task briefs and safe systems of work are in place.
- Produce and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Raise and manage NCRs where required.
- Ensure quality documentation is completed and maintained.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout site operations.
- Produce engineering progress reports.
- Monitor subcontractor performance.
- Contribute to project reporting and engineering reviews.
- Previous experience as a Senior Site Engineer on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong background delivering reinforced concrete, earthworks or infrastructure packages.
- Experience managing engineering teams on live construction sites.
- Excellent knowledge of construction sequencing and engineering control.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and temporary works.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance processes including ITPs and NCRs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Previous experience within the nuclear sector.
- Knowledge of Sellafield procedures and permit systems.
- Temporary Works experience.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- CSCS Card.
- Experience working under NEC contracts.
