Assistant Site Engineer – Major Marine Infrastructure Project
Location: Scotland (Project-Based – Working Away Monday to Friday)
Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time
Salary: £34,000 + Over £1,000 per Month Living Away Allowance, Daily Subsistence, Car Allowance, Fully Funded Accommodation & Travel.
Our client is a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across marine, highways, energy, rail, water and heavy civil sectors. They have awarded a flagship marine infrastructure project on Scotland's west coast and are recruiting an Assistant Site Engineer.
Project OverviewThe contractor is delivering a major marine infrastructure redevelopment project involving construction of a new harbour facility and associated landside infrastructure. Project elements include:
- Marine and harbour construction – new quay and pier structures
- Land reclamation and bulk earthworks
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Roads and external works
- Drainage and utility infrastructure
- Ferry terminal infrastructure
- Heavy civil engineering and marine works
This multi‑disciplinary project offers exposure across a wide range of civil engineering disciplines.
Role SummaryReporting to the Senior Site Engineer, the Assistant Site Engineer will support the engineering team with day‑to‑day technical delivery of construction activities, ensuring works are completed safely, accurately and in accordance with project specifications. The role involves hands‑on engineering activities with experience gained alongside senior engineers and site managers.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with setting out using GPS and Total Station equipment.
- Support delivery of marine and heavy civil engineering works.
- Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Produce as‑built surveys and maintain accurate engineering records.
- Carry out quality inspections to ensure works meet specification.
- Monitor subcontractor activities and workmanship.
- Assist with temporary works coordination.
- Maintain quality assurance documentation and inspection records.
- Record site progress and support daily reporting.
- Assist with material reconciliations and engineering records.
- Promote high standards of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ).
- Participate in toolbox talks and site safety inspections.
- Work closely with the wider project team to ensure successful project delivery.
- Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering.
- Graduate, placement or Assistant Engineer experience within civil engineering or construction.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Positive attitude with willingness to learn and develop.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Flexibility to work away from home Monday to Friday.
- Experience using Leica or Trimble GPS and Total Station equipment.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD.
- CSCS Card.
- Previous experience within heavy civils, marine, highways or infrastructure projects.
- £34,000 base salary.
- Over £1,000 per month living away allowance.
