OverviewAs a Senior Engineer at the AMRC, you will play an active role in solving real-world manufacturing problems. Working in a diverse team in the Integrated Manufacturing Group (IMG) to develop novel solutions for the high-value manufacturing sector, you will lead research into specific technical fields including improving manufacturing processes through mechanical engineering, mechanical design, assembly, designing and developing automated fixturing and robot end effectors.
You will lead the delivery of projects for partner companies and research council-funded projects. Reporting to IMG’s senior management team, you will be responsible for the oversight of junior engineers and ensuring successful project delivery. Your work will encompass all aspects of engaging with manufacturers, large and small, to identify, scope and deliver projects aimed at improving efficiency, productivity, quality, and sustainability.
In this role you will be expected to continuously develop your skills and stay ahead of emerging technologies in your field. You will use these skills to help IMG deliver tangible impact to the UK high value manufacturing sector.
Main Duties And Responsibilities- Responsible for solving complex manufacturing and other highly technical problems. This will include managing staff and resources to ensure that they are properly focused in the most effective manner.
- Provide oversight and lead the delivery of project tasks related to automated assembly, mechanical engineering and design, robotic tooling and cell design.
- Research into novel technology to advance knowledge, evaluate new techniques, and to solve specific manufacturing problems and lead delivering this in projects.
- Provide a high level of technical knowledge in your field, and demonstrate expertise to support customers and others within the AMRC.
- Assist with project delivery outside of your core area of expertise when required.
- Work independently, with an ability to manage your own time and those you supervise.
- Communicate your work to peers and customers, both as written and verbal outputs.
- Partake and lead in partner engagement sessions, both industrial and academic.
- Collaborate with colleagues from multiple teams to plan workload and resources to fit project timescales.
- Adhere to the AMRC’s quality management system and health and safety system.
- Write and review technical engineering reports and presentation.
- Lead project teams.
- Provide assistance to peers when required.
- Represent AMRC at conferences, trade shows and other events.
- Provide continual improvement in processes within IMG and AMRC and delivery excellence of projects.
- Develop and scope project work for both grant and commercial projects including business development with customers.
- Proactively drive personal and professional growth to maintain the highest standards of practice and align with evolving engineering industry benchmarks.
