Relationship Development Director

Overview

As a Business Development Manager you will source lending opportunities that support clients’ ambitions for strategic commercial growth. You will use your lending expertise and relationship‑management skills to provide a consultative service that helps clients determine their lending options and establish profitable partnerships with both corporate and individual clients. You will represent Barclays at a variety of events, grow your network and engage audiences while managing your diary effectively.

• Identify clients’ financial goals, challenges and risk tolerance through analysis of data from investment portfolios and cash flow.
• Research industry trends, regulatory landscape and competitive environment to inform strategic recommendations.
• Design customised solutions that address specific client needs, incorporating products and services from Barclays’ portfolio.
• Communicate the value proposition of proposed solutions, justify recommendations and negotiate terms that benefit both client and bank.
• Provide guidance on financial decisions, offering expert investment advice, risk‑management and wealth‑management strategies and updates on market trends.
• Assess financial, legal and operational risks associated with client relationships and implement measures to minimise potential losses.
• Document all client interactions, transactions and agreements to ensure transparency, auditability and support product development.
• Monitor client satisfaction, revenue generation and other metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of relationship‑management efforts.

• Experience in lending and liaising with external stakeholders and clients.
• Strong networking and presentation skills.
• Business‑development mindset and the ability to prioritise workload.
• Self‑starter with excellent communication abilities.
• Knowledge of risk and controls, change and transformation, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job‑specific technical skills.

This role will be based in Sheffield.
