We are urgently seeking a Specialist Planning Officer to join the City Council on a temporary basis. This role is critical as the council is in the final stages of local plan preparation. The successful candidate will primarily process local plan representations and support supplementary planning documents, working within a strict timetable due to the high corporate priority of this project.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Process local plan representations as part of the City Plan Main and Additional Modifications consultation.
• Assist with the production of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) such as Planning Obligations and Offices.
• Provide input into government consultations and handle other day-to-day policy tasks and queries.
• Support the planning policy team in preparing the City Plan, conducting planning policy research and development.
• Liaise with the Planning Data Team and other stakeholders within and outside the City Corporation on policy matters.
• Offer general support to the planning policy team as needed,

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in processing and responding to representations for local plans and other policy documents.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with supplementary planning documents; deep expertise is not essential but beneficial.
• Strong capability to provide high-quality, efficient, and effective planning advice related to policy development and review.
• Excellent communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders and handling planning casework.
