Police Constable AFO Dounreay - 2025
Join Civil Nuclear Constabulary, an armed police service dedicated to protecting the nuclear industry. Our vision is to be recognised nationally and internationally as the United Kingdom’s leading organisation for the provision of protective policing for the civil nuclear industry and other critical national infrastructure.
As a CNC Police Officer you will become part of a highly trained, well‑disciplined, professional team operating from our Operational Units. Your duties include 24/7 armed response, patrolling and protecting nuclear sites, facilities and materials, and working alongside local Home Office Police Forces. All recruits undertake a 19‑week residential Initial Foundation Programme (IFP) that includes world‑class Authorised Firearms training. Prior policing experience is not required.
We understand that for local candidates the distance to training can be a barrier. CNC offers at least one local course each year, held exclusively in Caithness (except for the first week, which takes place in Oxfordshire). Our recruitment team will discuss your preference for a local course and will note this in your application.
After a 2‑year probationary period you become eligible to apply for specialist roles such as Dog Handler, Special Branch, Firearms Instructor or Strategic Escort Group Officer.
Police officers are expected to display the highest standards, values and professional qualities at all times. The CNC Code of Ethics applies to all officers and sets out the principles and standards of behaviour we expect.
Applicants must be 18 years old and hold a full manual driving licence.
