This vacancy is open to National Firearms Instructors who currently hold the ARV Officer baseline role profile (as per the NPFTC) in a Home Office force.
The main purpose of the role is to plan, prepare and deliver firearms training and provide firearms tactical advice to firearms commanders.
Warwickshire Police are currently seeking National Firearms Instructors to join their Firearms Training Unit. This is an exciting time for armed policing in Warwickshire as we look to grow our establishment numbers for the future.
Warwickshire National Firearms Instructors currently work 40 hours split across a Mon‑Thurs working week (07:00–17:00) – applicants will need to demonstrate flexibility during periods of high demand, e.g. Initial Firearms Courses.
In accordance with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum, you will train and teach those involved in the operational deployment of armed policing. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Forces’ training calendar and in doing so, will also have opportunities to develop your skills in areas such as Close Protection. In addition to their core role, full time Instructors provide Firearms Tactical Advice and support with covering the on‑call rota’s.
There is a collaborative approach to the operational and training aspects of being a firearms officer in Warwickshire Police and you will be expected to maintain your operational competency and support the ARV, where required.
Based in central England we have excellent links with regional partners and work collaboratively with other Forces to deliver excellent standards of Firearms Training.
All ARVOs will receive a one-off payment of £1,000 on successful transfer to Warwickshire Police.
Warwickshire ARV officers currently receive a Targeted Variable Payment (TVP) of £1,500 per annum, with OFCs receiving an additional TVP of £750.
Firearms tactical advisors receive an additional essential user allowance.
Main Responsibilities- Plan, prepare and deliver relevant Firearms Training to all Armed Response Vehicle Officers and Specialist Firearms Training (where applicable).
- Plan, prepare and deliver relevant Firearms Training to personnel from other Forces and appropriate organisations on National Training Courses.
- Plan, prepare and deliver relevant Firearms awareness training as appropriate to Police Officers and Staff.
- Provide a response to Firearms incidents by providing additional ARV or Tactical Firearms cover/resilience as dictated by demand.
- Provide Firearms tactical advice for spontaneous and planned firearms incidents.
- Support the learning of others using the most effective and appropriate techniques.
- Validate and update training material as appropriate.
- Prepare reports, and assessments on delegates students as required.
- Maintain knowledge / accreditation and skills with regard to national, regional and local developments in computer & communication systems.
- Identify and apply appropriate evaluation processes, incorporating feedback into training design.
