Overview

This role is part of the Emergency Planning Team at North Northamptonshire Council. It requires a 37-hour work week (Monday to Friday) and includes participation in an on-call rota that provides 24/7 coverage for the council’s emergency response. The position is full-time, permanent and is conducted primarily during normal office hours, but demands flexibility and the willingness to work unsocial hours as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in assessing hazards and threats in line with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
  • Develop, update and maintain plans, procedures and records so that they are ready for use during incidents.
  • Collaborate with other council departments, communities and external emergency responders to support the authority’s resilience strategy.
  • Manage the authority’s response to emergencies and major incidents, and take an active part in operational responses.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Sound knowledge of UK civil protection and emergency management arrangements and how local responders deliver them.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to produce creative and pragmatic solutions to resilience challenges.
  • Proficiency in basic IT applications and comfortable using maps to communicate geographic information.
  • Demonstrated resilience and the ability to handle challenging subjects in a high-pressure environment.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rota and to respond to emergencies at any time.
