Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Occupational Therapy team at Princess Alexandra Hospital, based within the Medicine OT service. You will be responsible for supporting Occupational Therapists in the assessment, planning, and implementation of occupational therapy interventions to meet patients needs. You will work under the direction and supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist, assisting with both clinical and administrative duties to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service.

Your role will involve working across hospital wards and, where required, visiting patients in their own homes to support safe and effective rehabilitation and discharge planning.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will implement agreed therapy interventions under supervision, building effective therapeutic relationships with patients to support their rehabilitation goals. You will plan and prepare for clinical activities, assisting with standardised assessments such as personal care and kitchen tasks, and demonstrating the safe use of equipment when required.

Your role will include supporting and undertaking home and access visits, both jointly and independently, as appropriate. You will facilitate the safe movement of people and equipment using approved moving and handling techniques following training, maintain therapy equipment and materials, and fit, adjust, and safely use a range of tools and equipment to enable therapeutic activities.

Job Role s & Responsibilities

* To report patient progress comprehensively to the therapy team, ensuring all developments and concerns in treatment are communicated clearly and promptly.

* To contribute to accurate record keeping, maintaining confidentiality at all times and ensuring both written and electronic records are up to date.

* To provide support, guidance, and education to patients, families, and carers, tailoring communication to individual needs including cultural, age-related, or disability considerations.

* To actively engage in training and professional development opportunities, maintaining a portfolio that records learning outcomes and skills acquired.

* To use IT systems effectively for equipment ordering, treatment planning, correspondence with internal and external agencies, and overall administrative support.

* To maintain a safe, clean, and organised departmental environment, assisting with administrative duties where appropriate and ensuring all therapy staff can work efficiently and safely.

Person Specifications & Qualifications

* Previous experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant

* Knowledge of Systm One, Moving & Handling, BLS

* Understanding of NHS changes and their impact on OT

* Experience working in a caring environment

* NVQ Level 3 and UK driving licence (desirable)
