Skye & Lochalsh Community Midwifery Team is looking for a band 5 or band 6 midwife keen to join a small local team. This is a full time position with an on call commitment.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified midwife to undertake the Flying Start programme, or an experienced midwife keen to practice midwife led care and develop skills as an autonomous practitioner in a remote and rural environment.

The midwifery team provide maternity services within the Community Midwifery Unit within Broadford Hospital and across the wider Skye & Lochalsh area. The service offers local births within the CMU and  the management, care and transfer of higher risk pregnancies and sick neonates the midwifery team work closely with NHS Highland Obstetric, Midwifery and Neonatal teams based in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness (approximately 88 miles away).

The midwifery team work flexibly to provide a 24/7 service.

A current UK driving licence is essential for this role. You will require use of your own car with business insurance cover. You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations to meet the operational requirements of the service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide maternity services within the Community Midwifery Unit and across the wider Skye & Lochalsh area, including local births within the CMU and at home.
  • Work with NHS Highland Obstetric, Midwifery and Neonatal teams for the management, care and transfer of higher risk pregnancies and sick neonates.
  • Support a 24/7 service by working flexibly within the team.
  • Undertake the Flying Start programme (for new graduates) or develop skills as an autonomous practitioner in a remote and rural environment.
  • Travel between work locations as required, with use of personal car and business insurance.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Band 5 or Band 6 midwifery post.
  • Current UK driving licence is essential; use of your own car with business insurance cover is required.
Additional Information for Candidates
  • Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
