Ardingly Court Surgery is seeking an experienced Phlebotomistto work as part of our Nursing team. We are looking for someone who enjoysworking in a busy team environment and has a love of patient care.
The successful candidate will be suitably qualified
Phlebotomist who can deliver phlebotomy clinics independently* (
* Training will be provided RE: IT systems and internal processes but candidate must be experienced in terms of phlebotomy skills).

Or work part time initiallyand be willing (with training and supervision) to expand role over time to take on Health Care Assistant (HCA) duties (detailed in Appendix) to increase overall hours.

Weare based in Kemptown - which has good access to buses and is walking distance from Brighton station.
Main duties of the jobYou will be a member of a Primary Health Care team carrying out the taking of blood from patients at the practice under clinical supervision of the Practice Nurses, following evidence-based national and local clinical governance principals.
Providing an efficient service to all patients and cliniciansensuring that the work allocated to you is regularly prioritised and dealtwithin deadlines set.

Job responsibilitiesEnsuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
Collection of sample(s) s of blood in accordance with training and procedures
Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
Notifying the clinical team of any significant patient issues
Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
Appendix RE Health Care Assistant role:
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Ordering and unpacking of practice stock
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Support the practice with diabetes foot checks & Learning disability checks
- Act as a chaperone as required
- Provide support during minor operations as required
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
- If trained, administer flu vaccinations or other injections
- Good standard of general education
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Phlebotomy skills and experience
- Phlebotomy training and relevant updates
- Flexibility
- Strong attention to patient confidentiality
- NVQ level 2 Phlebotomy or equivalent
- Health Care Service Certificate and /or diplomas
- EMIS experience
