Would you like to be involved in the development and leadership of a brand-new state of the art Section 10 Aseptic Services Unit? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Pharmacist or Technician aspiring to a senior management role within Aseptic Services.

At Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (GWH) we have a clear commitment to transform our aseptic service provision into a patient centered, resilient and reactive service which will support the national agenda for Aseptic Services Transformation. Currently in the final validation stages, two new Section 10 clean rooms will soon be open to support the delivery of high cost, short expiry, agile chemotherapy provision and future unmet patient need.

This is a fixed term post which provides a unique career defining opportunity to be part of effecting and implementing a new service from the ground up. You will be supported to build upon your specialist knowledge and management experience to become an effective leader supporting the Accountable Pharmacist and Lead for the service in all aspects of transforming GWH's aseptic services provision.

Main

duties of the job

This role supports the Accountable Pharmacist and Lead for Aseptic Services in overseeing the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit (PASU), providing specialist technical expertise and resolving complex issues. It includes overseeing the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of aseptically prepared medicines, both produced in-house and outsourced.

The postholder will lead a multidisciplinary team of skilled Pharmacists, Technicians, and other Pharmacy staff, ensuring all activities follow standard operating procedures and comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and Good Distribution Practice (GDP). They will also contribute to strategic planning, driving service improvements and identifying opportunities for development in line with best practice and current guidance.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) (Pharmacist or Technician)
  • Master's degree in Pharmacy plus 1 year preregistration training / NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services and a BTEC in Pharmaceutical science (or equivalent qualification and underpinning knowledge)
  • Accreditation in Pre and in Process Checking (PIPC) (Technician)
  • Post qualification in either aseptic services (e.g. Pharmaceutical Technology Quality Assurance) or clinical (e.g. Clinical Diploma)
  • Quality risk management training
  • Change management training
  • To have completed the Product Approval Accreditation Programme (PAAP)
Experience
  • oSignificant experience in pharmacy aseptic services in a supervisory capacity oExperience of managing staff and complex teams effectively oIn depth knowledge of the legislation and standards relating to Good Manufacturing Practice oProven understanding and high level knowledge of the principles and practices of aseptics e.g. preparation, formulation, stability, administration, legal issues oKnowledge of working within and maintaining a Pharmaceutical Quality System oExperience of staff training and development oExperience of recruiting and supervising staff oProcedure and policy development oEvidence of successfully managing a significant change in a department
  • oExperience of working with clinical trials within aseptic services oExperience of project management oExperience of dealing with external agencies oExperience of the tendering and negotiation of new contracts within aseptic services

£55,690 to £62,682 a year per annum pro rata
