Primary Care Mental Health Community Psychiatric Nurse – Band 6

Salary: £41,608 - £50,702 per annum
Plus Distant Islands Allowance: £1,406
Hours: 37 hours per week
Position Type: Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic Band 6 to join the Uists and Barra Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). The post holder will work collaboratively within the CMHT, focusing on providing interventions for adults requiring primary care level support. The role offers ample opportunities to develop experience and skills in a remote and rural community setting across the Southern Isles (Benbecula, Uists, and Barra).

The primary base is Benbecula.

The post holder will be part of a supportive team, working closely with the Nurse Manager, Community Psychiatric Nurses, and Mental Health Support Workers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and improving services for adults with common mental health problems in Primary Care
  • Conducting mental health screening assessments, risk assessment, medication monitoring, telephone triage, sign posting, referral to other services, and brief interventions
  • Supporting the Community Psychiatric Nurse Team's out‑of‑hours service (approximately one week every four weeks on‑call)
  • Working across designated GP practices and attending weekly integrated care team meetings
  • Providing timely access to evidence‑based interventions to promote recovery

Ideal candidate qualifications:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Full driving licence
  • Willingness to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme)
