Trainee Orthopaedic Practitioner
Job Overview
The Trainee Orthopaedic Practitioner is a member of the Outpatients team. The post holder will work with qualified Orthopaedic Practitioners at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, providing support for Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinics, the Virtual Fracture Clinic, Emergency Department and wards.
The post holder may have to attend other Trust sites during their training to gain the relevant work experience.
The post holder must be highly motivated with excellent communication skills. You need to be willing to learn a variety of new procedures, techniques and have the ability to work as part of the team to provide the best care for patients.
You will work closely with qualified orthopaedic practitioners and the multi-disciplinary team providing support to all patients that require casting, splinting and wound care. In return you will have the opportunity to develop the skills required and study towards the British Orthopaedic Association’s British Casting Certificate. This is a fully funded residential course run over 6 weeks at Stanmore Orthopaedic Hospital, London.
You will be expected to work as a Band 4 trainee for up to two years, gaining the relevant knowledge and experience before starting your casting course. On completion and qualification you will progress to a Band 5 Orthopaedic Practitioner.
You will primarily work within the plaster room supporting the running of clinics that require plaster room input and you will also need to ensure Orthopaedic inpatients have access to plaster services.
Upon qualification from Stanmore you would be required to complete a set of Trust specific competency based training for certain tasks, which you would be supported with as you progress prior to moving to a Band 5 Orthopaedic Practitioner.
