Paramedic

Thepost-holder is a Paramedic whoacts within their professional boundaries.

Paramedicswork independently within their scope of practice, using theirenhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to assess and manage patients presenting with acute presentations which include minor illness or injury,abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches.

The post-holder will be an integral part of the general practice team.

• Workas part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Assessand triage patients, inclu same day triage, and as appropriate provide treatment including prescribing medications, or making referrals
• Advisepatients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate,inclu signposting patients to social prescribing services and other community or voluntary services
• Beable to:
• Performspecialist health checks and reviews within your scope of practice
• Perform and interpret ECGs
• Performinvestigatory procedures and undertake the collection ofpathological specimens including blood samples, swabs, etc
• Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans and lead certain services
• Communicateat all levels ensuring effective, person-centred care
• Communicateproactively and effectively with all colleagues and attend meetings as required
• Maintain accurate and detailed health records of your consultations
• Communicate effectively with patients, their family members and carers
• Receivereferrals and patients from triage
• Developyourself and the role through participation in clinical supervision, training and service development activities
• Activelysignpost patients to the correct healthcare professional
• Keep up to date with the latest guidance, ensuring conform to NICE, CQC etc.
• Beaware of duties and responsibilities relating to current legislation and adhereto practice policies and procedures on safeguarding
• Supportin the delivery of services

We are a Practice of 9000 patients in Bampton, West Oxfordshire. We serve the community of Bampton and surrounding villages.

In addition to the primary responsibilities,the Paramedic has the following wider responsibilities:

• Support the delivery of QOF, incentive schemes, and other quality or cost effectiveness initiatives
• Deliver training, mentoring and guidance to other clinicians and staff on medical emergencies
• Supportvirtual and remote models of consultation
• Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role,ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner

• Completed your two-year Consolidation of Learning period when a newly qualified paramedic
• Completed a further three years experience as a band 6 (or equivalent) paramedic
• Attained Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice
• An appreciation of the new NHS landscape, including the relationships between individual practices, PCNs and the commissioners
• Experience of working autonomously

• Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with people by telephone, email and face to face
• Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
• Commitment to reducing health inequalities and proactively working to reach people from all communities
• Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to another healthcare professional
• Ability to record accurate clinical notes
• Excellent interpersonal, influencing, negotiation and organisational skills with the ability to constructively challenge the views and practices of managers and clinicians
• Good EMIS and other clinical systems knowledge
• Broad knowledge of clinical governance

• Educated to degree level in paramedicine or equivalent experience
• Working towards Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice
• Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Paramedic
• Working towards Masters level or equivalent capability in paramedic areas of practice and has completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the NHS E Paramedic FCP/AP Roadmap to practice
• Completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework.
