The Great Western Hospital respiratory nurses are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic nurse with respiratory experience to work within a well established team as a part time Band 6 respiratory nurse.
Together we provide care throughout the trust, review in-patients, triage out-patients, run asthma clinics and support procedures in pleural clinics and provide care for day-ward attenders.
We are looking forward to expand our roles to include ILD and biological therapies in COPD in the future.
Main duties of the jobApplicants need a good understanding and experience of the management of patients with long term respiratory conditions including COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, NIV and pleural diseases. Training will be provided to expand existing knowledge. The successful post holder should have an interest in further development within all those areas as well as supporting the wider team in possible expansion of service to include ILD and biological therapies in COPD.
We would like you to demonstrate excellent communication skills; the ability to work within a team; and work autonomously to review patients; making recommendations and decisions whilst offering support and guidance to patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will also need to be able to participate in the education of staff alongside clinical practice educators and to carry out audits.

Jobresponsibilities
The post holder will provide a specialist respiratory nursing service to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, both within the inpatient and outpatient setting.
The post holder will act as a resource to other healthcare professionals requiring specialist advice. To provide support and assistance to the respiratory team and other teams as required. To work in conjunction with the Band 7 Respiratory Nurse, promoting and maintaining excellent, safe practice and continuing to develop the role of the nurse specialist. The post holder will strive to provide high quality care as well as aiming to achieve Trust objectives with respect to decreasing length of stay.
PersonSpecification Qualifications
- NMC Registration
- Relevant respiratory course or respiratory experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Patient assessment and clinical examination or equivalent course
- Immediate Life Support
- Non-medical prescribing course
- Working as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to function as an effective team member
- Previous experience in a respiratory specialist role
- Participation in research and /or audit
