Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a part‑time Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Drake Hall, a women’s closed prison located near Eccleshall in Staffordshire with around 340 female inmates. The role is part of a team of four; there is no on‑site pharmacy, but on‑site parking, a gym, and PPG pathway training are available.

About the Role

Part‑time, working one day a week (ideally 7.5 hours on Wednesdays). The role supports a new Women’s Health hub, implementing Structured Medicine Reviews (SMR) to address problematic polypharmacy, ensure appropriate prescribing, reduce over‑prescribing and initiate deprescribing where appropriate.

Hours & Salary

Hours:

7.5 hours weekly, typically a Wednesday, with the possibility of two half‑days per week if a Wednesday is covered. Salary:
Up to £57,955 FTE per annum, depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert clinical advice on medicines and polypharmacy in line with expected standards, ensuring a safe, modern medicines‑management and optimisation service is delivered to patients.
  • Deliver an integrated, safe, legal, and high‑quality prison pharmacy service as part of a comprehensive healthcare package tailored to the prison population.
  • Inspire positive leadership for pharmacy technicians and the wider healthcare team, fostering a supportive working environment and facilitating staff retention.
  • Promote good prescribing practice and develop improved medicines‑management understanding throughout the prison healthcare team.
  • Share information on pharmaceutical products, medicines management, legislation, and general health education to keep patients and healthcare teams appropriately informed.

Qualifications Required
  • GPhC registered Pharmacist
  • Independent Prescriber with some post‑qualification experience
  • Interest in female health
  • Procurement or audit experience
  • Willingness to undertake training in menopause and contraception (desirable)
  • Vocational Master’s Degree in Pharmacy including pre‑reg training
  • Experience in hospital, community or prison environment (ideal but not essential)
