Location: Northmoor Green or Moorland

Role Overview

Assistant Psychologist to support adult male inmates at HMP YOI Moorland (Category

C) and HMP YOI Hatfield (Category D/Open). The position involves four days per week at Moorland and one day at Hatfield, managing a caseload, delivering group interventions, and holding regular 1‑1 sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the psychological care of patients throughout their journey.
  • Run clinics, assessments and 1‑1 sessions with patients.
  • Triage assessments and identify patient needs.
  • Prepare and deliver trauma‑informed intervention group sessions.
  • Provide psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
  • Work with people with complex needs that may present challenging situations or behaviours.
  • Work within the Assessment Care in Custody Team (ACCT) process and contribute to the Challenge, Support and Intervention Plan (CSIP).
  • Monitor and provide feedback on patients’ mental health and general functioning, reporting to the mental health team.
Working Hours & Salary

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:00.

Salary: £29,264 – £33,510 per annum.

Requirements
  • Degree in Psychology (required).
  • Masters degree desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in a paid Assistant Psychologist role within prison, community, or psychiatric settings.
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic groups and delivering assessment, formulation, and intervention using evidence‑based models such as CBT, CFT or DBT.
  • Experience in a secure environment is a bonus.
