Specialist Cardiac Physiologist

This is a temporary contract ending 31 Mar 2027

The position will enable the Trust to provide investigations, including at an external site at West Swindon, with staff rotation into the department at the hospital.

The department undertakes a wide range of invasive and non‑invasive cardiac physiology investigations, including stress echocardiography, TOE, physiologist‑led valve and bubble clinics. We perform CRT, ICD, and conduction system physiology device implantations and follow‑up, maintain a remote monitoring pacemaker service, and are actively involved in research for both echocardiography and pacing.

The post holder will independently perform and report on a range of investigations.

• Work in close partnership with the Cardiac Physiology Service Managers, other cardiac physiologists, and lead clinicians on a day‑to‑day basis.
• Help develop and facilitate the implementation of standard operating procedures and guidelines within the department to support effective service delivery.
• Conduct regular reviews of guidelines and update them in line with current research and national/local guidelines.
• Remain current with best‑practice guidelines in cardiac physiology and use this knowledge in service development.
• Maintain extensive knowledge and expertise in cardiac physiology.
• Depending on experience, undertake, interpret, and report on advanced cardiac diagnostic tests such as cardiac ultrasound and cardiac rhythm management devices, providing advice to patients, clinicians, and specialists.
• Train, develop, and assess junior staff members to ensure skill maintenance and service delivery requirements are met.
• Actively participate in the preparation, delivery, and evaluation of educational resources for all levels of medical and nursing staff, aiming to improve the understanding of the advantages and limitations of investigations and therapy.
• Participate in audit by implementing, monitoring, and collating research and/or audit data as required by an agreed audit framework.
• Provide clinical supervision and training where appropriate, acting as a work‑based assessor for specific areas of cardiac physiology.

• BSc Honours Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ongoing professional development and up‑to‑date clinical practice.
• Current post‑graduate professional qualification: BSE accreditation and/or Cardiac Rhythm Management.
• Ability to work independently in other areas of cardiac physiology (e.g., perform and assist in DSE, ESE, TOE; perform and report 3D echo and adult congenital heart disease scans; work in CRM or cardiac catheter laboratory services).
• Teaching and assessor qualification.
• Second post‑graduate professional qualification.
• Adult BSE accreditation.
• Ability to perform and report on echocardiograms and/or cardiac rhythm management.

£49,387 to £56,515 a year (dependent on experience)
