Healthcare Assistant – Enhanced Access Service
Shifts are based at Enhanced Access Hubs located across Leeds.
Main duties of the jobTo assist and support delivery of high standards of nursing care provided in-house to patients of the practices across Leeds. To work as an effective member of the existing primary care nursing team and practice team in the provision of high quality, easily accessible appointments. To work under the supervision of a qualified health professional in providing health screening, promotion and ongoing monitoring.
To work at all times to safeguard the interests of the patients and to maintain the high standards and reputation of the Leeds GP Confederation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide appointments within the Practices to support patient care within agreed clinical protocols.
- To provide general health assessments and screening to the practice population with reference to other members of the Practice team as appropriate.
- To contribute to the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.
- To assist in the provision of General Practice services within the scope of their own professional practice.
- To participate in appraisal, and ongoing development in line with local and national strategies.
- To be aware of responsibilities for health and safety as part of the practice team.
- To demonstrate efficient and effective use of resources.
- To demonstrate commitment to their own professional development.
- Any other duties considered relevant to the post.
- NHS Health Checks
- Chaperoning duties
- Clearing and re‑stocking consulting trollies
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
- Collection of data for Chronic Disease Management e.g. Blood pressure, pulse, alcohol consumption, activity level, smoking status, dementia screening, diabetic foot screening.
- Offer health promotion related to patient identified issues.
- Utilise nurse protocols to identify and report abnormal readings to supervising Practice nurse/GP and registered surgery.
- Simple wound care, removal of stitches/staples.
- Assist LARC in LARC clinics.
- Responsible for the health and safety of the use of practice equipment and the transportation of collected specimens to hospital.
- Confident with computer systems are essential, as expected to use Systm One and EMIS.
- Any other duties considered relevant to the post.
All staff working for Leeds GP Confederation must comply with the National Hand Hygiene and personal protective equipment policy. Training must be done and evidenced that it meets the standards addressed in the Core Skills Frameworks – Skills for Health. All staff irrespective of role must take all reasonable care to minimise the spread of a healthcare associated infection occurring to patients, visitors and staff (including you) as a consequence of actions and/or omissions at work.

- Competent working with Microsoft Office
- Health and safety awareness
- Knowledge of Systm One and/or EMISWeb
- Skills in Phlebotomy, NHS Health Checks, Blood Pressures
- Basic first aid knowledge
- Awareness of Blood Borne Viruses
- An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
- Able to work on own initiative
- Able to work under pressure and remain calm
- Flexible and adaptable
- Aware of own limitations
- Experience with in a healthcare setting
- Experience of role in GP Practice
