We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Full Sutton, a Category A high‑security prison located in Pocklington, York. HMP Full Sutton has a capacity of around 600 men and houses those serving long‑term sentences.
About the RoleThis role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations. No two days are ever the same. Every healthcare assistant takes responsibility and ownership of a specific area, such as social care, blood borne viruses, health promotion, etc., allowing you to become an SME while learning about all areas of healthcare.
HoursThis position is full‑time, working 37.5 hours per week on a 4‑week rolling rota basis.
You will work 1 in 4 weekends, and each week work 2 major shifts and 2 long shifts.
Major – 7.5 hours between 7 am and 7:15 pm.
Long – 7 am to 7:15 pm.
No night shifts.
SalaryYou will receive an annual salary up to £29,723 per annum.
Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
What you’ll be doing- Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings.
- Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patient care.
- Support the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care, including venepuncture.
- Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, weight, etc.
- Support second receptions (new prisoners on the fifth day in the site) alongside the registered nurse.
- Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required.
- Primarily work within the primary care team, although may be required to carry out duties in the substance misuse team.

- Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate.
- Have experience within phlebotomy – highly desirable.
- Have experience in a clinical care setting previously – ideally from a hospital or prison setting.
- Have clinical experience – venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
- Have a non‑judgemental and compassionate approach.
