Public Health Specialist (Gambling Harms and Alcohol-Related Harms Prevention)

Hours: 37 per week

Contract: 2‑year Fixed Term

Swindon Borough Council’s Public Health Team seeks an experienced specialist to lead work on Gambling Harms prevention and Alcohol‑related harm upstream prevention.

• Lead the Gambling Harms prevention workstream, contributing to the needs assessment and strategy development.
• Lead the Alcohol‑related harm prevention workstream, focusing on upstream elements and action plans.
• Collaborate with NHS partners, licensing teams, voluntary, community and other stakeholders to translate assessment findings into action and measurable outcomes.
• Manage projects within steering groups across the Borough, monitor delivery plans, drive continuous improvement and promote innovative approaches to prevention, literacy and inequality reduction.
• Deliver evidence‑based interventions, report on progress and outcomes, and support commissioning of high‑quality public health actions.
• Work closely with the Public Health Principal and other senior staff to shape policy and strategy.

• Relevant experience in public health, gambling harms and/or alcohol harm prevention.
• Strong knowledge of health needs assessment, evidence‑based intervention design and commissioning in public health.
• Experience leading multi‑stakeholder projects and working with NHS, licensing, voluntary and community partners.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Evidence of ability to influence, drive continuous improvement and promote innovative prevention approaches.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
• Fluency in English (Part 7 Immigration Act requirement).

This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and fluent English. Work visa sponsorship is not offered.
