Role Overview
To join a team of senior radiographers rotating through the department including A&E, Theatres, CT, fluoroscopy and satellite units in the community as required. Opportunities are available for staff to specialise, dependent on service needs, in areas such as Cath lab, Mammography and MRI.
Responsibilities- Rotate through the department undertaking unsupervised procedures, including MRI at Warwick and Stratford.
- Perform all clinical examinations to the highest standards according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Set high standards of patient care, monitoring, initiating and implementing changes where necessary to improve care.
- Assist and advise radiographers, assistant practitioners and radiographic aides as needed.
- Keep knowledge up to date with the latest developments in radiography and instigate change in liaison with Sub‑Radiographers and the General Manager Diagnostics.
- Take part in weekend and weekday shifts for radiographers or any negotiated extended‑hours programme; night work may also be required.
- Maintain clean, tidy and appropriately equipped rooms/areas ready for immediate use.
- Be familiar with all departmental clinical protocols and procedures for all modalities.
- Assist with the daily duty roster, ensuring all modalities are staffed appropriately with radiographers and support staff, and act as the lead in the A&E department when required.
- Monitor and report equipment faults in the MRI departments and liaise with equipment manufacturers regarding breakdowns.
- Co‑ordinate the daily workload, report sickness and absence to the Modality Lead/General Manager Diagnostics and manage non‑clinical staff such as porters.
- Participate in the daily clinical training of undergraduate students from UCE, Birmingham or elective students from other organisations.
- Attend mandatory statutory training within the Trust on a yearly basis, maintain an up‑to‑date CPD portfolio and keep knowledge current in line with emerging technology.
- Assist, advise, teach junior radiographers and support staff, and partake in formative/summative assessment for graduate and adaptation students.
- Participate in appraisals, personal reviews and work to agreed objectives.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including Health and Safety, Infection Control, COSHH, IRMER and IRR.
- Participate in radiology clinical audit and review incidents, near misses, complaints and successes to promote performance for self and patients.
- Ensure the weekly/monthly radiology equipment QA programme is maintained and report any issues to the RA for diagnostics.
- Liaise with all staff members, wards, clinicians, clerical and support staff to achieve maximum efficiency and optimise the appointment system.
- Advise clinicians within the Trust and across the PCT for examinations and results as required in respect of patient care.
- Maintain patient records for all examinations as per departmental protocol (paper and computerised).
- DCR or BSc in Radiology.
- State Registered radiographer.
- Evidence of CPD since qualification.
- Experience in CT and/or another specialist area.
- Minimum 2 years post‑registration experience.
- Current Band 6 or more than 2 years experience.
- High‑quality clinical skills in plain film and broad clinical experience.
- Ability to work in a busy A&E environment managing daily workload.
- Good communication skills; articulate with Consultant Radiologists and all other staff.
- Ability to liaise with consultants, ward staff, senior AED/ITU staff and theatres for medical emergencies.
- Knowledge of IRMER and ionising radiation regulations.
- Proven organisational skills, ability to cover sick leave, holidays, and allocate workload.
- Desire to extend the role and progress within fluorography and mammography specialties.
- Potential to demonstrate leadership skills and motivate others.
- Calm under pressure, methodical, positive outlook, responsive to change, and able to give and receive structured criticism.
- High energy and resilience with the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
- Corporate approach to Trust objectives, ability to implement new ideas benefiting patients and the working environment.
- Flexible approach to working hours, willing to work shift systems introduced, on‑call, weekends and to suit workload.
- Good physical health with no recurring illness.
