Position: Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Location: Brighton

Overview

Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist role within Sussex Gender Service, NHS adult gender service providing local transgender healthcare. The team includes administrators, care navigators, clinical nurse specialists, GPs, psychologists and speech & language therapists.

We are looking for a clinician to lead on a gender-affirming voice therapy caseload, delivering a blend of individual and group interventions, aligned with personal voice goals. The role includes supporting service development, supervision and development of the team.

Main duties
  • Deliver highly specialist, gender-affirming voice therapy
  • Hold and manage a complex specialist caseload
  • Contribute to service development and innovation
  • Collaborate as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and training
  • Champion best practice and raise awareness of the SLT role
Role responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred voice therapy to TNBI individuals with a range of needs
  • Manage a specialist caseload from assessment through intervention and discharge
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing expertise to holistic care
  • Support training, supervision and service development within a growing service
What you’ll bring
  • Qualified SLT with HCPC registration
  • Experience in voice and/or gender-affirming practice
  • Strong clinical reasoning and ability to work with complex needs
  • Experience of supervision, training or leadership
  • Experience working in inclusive, neurodivergent-affirming services
  • Interest in singing or character voice acting (e.g. DnD)
Qualifications
  • Degree/ PG Masters qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • HCPC registration
Knowledge and experience
  • Experience of delivering gender-affirming voice therapy
  • Competent at Levels A and B (or working towards

    B) of the RCSLT Trans and Gender Diverse Competency Framework
  • Experience of working with individuals and groups in person
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Experience in a clinical area related to the post
  • Experience of multi-agency work
  • Experience in applying a range of assessment tools and a comprehensive knowledge of relevant SLT clinical approaches
  • Experience of service development
  • Membership of the RCSLT Trans and Gender - Diverse Clinical Excellence Network
