Job Summary

A 6 month fixed‑term opportunity (may be extended) has arisen for a POCT Specialist Biomedical Scientist to help lead on the introduction of new POCT devices as part of our new managed service contract with Siemens Healthineers. Blood Sciences offers a comprehensive POCT service to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the wider community. The main POCT laboratory is situated in the brand‑new Centre for Laboratory Medicine (CfLM) building on the St.

James’s Hospital site, where this role will be based. The successful candidate(s) will report to the POCT Coordinator and lead the introduction of new POCT devices across the Trust. This is a rolling programme of work which commenced in May 2026 and will ultimately see the replacement of around 700 POCT devices. This role will provide the necessary scientific leadership and contribute to the general management of the section, planning, prioritising and organising tasks undertaken by the wider POCT Team, as well as organising training events and contributing towards the quality assurance of our services.

The successful candidate will be an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology or POCT. Experience in POCT, or equipment verification and validation would be advantageous. Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills are a requirement of this role as you will be leading a large programme of work with distinct timelines.

The Centre for Laboratory Medicine opened in 2025 and offers excellent facilities for our friendly and dedicated POCT team.

This role offers the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to challenge themselves in a unique role, leading a large transformational project that will directly improve patient care. The department has a very engaged multi‑disciplinary senior team and a well‑developed quality management system. The successful candidate will be well supported by the wider scientific and clinical teams. This is a full‑time role which does not involve working unsocial hours.

The department is accredited to ISO
15189 and by the IBMS as a training laboratory in both Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology.
