Location: St James's

Undertake psychological assessments of students applying to the Counselling and Mental Health Support Service, in order to ascertain the nature of their presenting problems and how best to meet their needs. Assess the suitability of the students access to the Counselling Service which provides a short term, five session, solution focused service model. Where applicable, identify the need to refer students who are not suitable for short term therapy in the Counselling Service to external support, for example: crisis mental health services, GP, NHS specialist services, other community services external to King?s.

Familiarise oneself to the internal Student Support Services across King?s which may be more suitable or in co-ordination with Counselling support, which might benefit the student. This includes, Support for Study processes within Faculties, Faculty Wellbeing Advisors, Disability & Inclusion Services, Money and Housing support. Triage student self-referrals as suitable for an assessment with the Counselling Service or not. Support students to access external referral pathways when deemed more appropriate.

Allocate assessments and ongoing counselling support across the Counselling and Mental Health Support Service. ?

Within the bounds of confidentiality, to liaise as appropriate with academic and non-academic staff regarding individual students as well as external professionals and institutions for example, GPs, psychiatric or other mental health services, specialist services. ?

To support students with mitigating circumstances requests such as support letters where suitable. Maintain confidential records in line with regulatory professional body requirements using University enterprise systems and databases. Understand and adhere to safeguarding mechanisms and reporting requirements for vulnerable students, escalating possible risk appropriately. Adhere to ethical responsibilities and guidelines stipulated by regulatory Counselling and Psychological, Nursing or Social Work bodies.

Actively participate and contribute to peer and group and individual supervision (e.g., clinical meetings, case review meetings), client outcome evaluation, and other quality assurance processes.
