An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Medicine (High Care and Respiratory) within our Pharmacy Department at University Hospital Crosshouse. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
Hours36.00 hours per week.
Core hours 08:30 – 16:30 Monday – Friday (with three working days 30mins shorter). You shall participate in weekend working, public holiday working and supporting the late night rota across dispensaries.
Job share / Part Time hours will be considered for this post.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
UK Driving LicenceA UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What You Will DoYou will lead the delivery and ongoing development of clinical pharmacy services across medical specialties at University Hospital Crosshouse and provide expert pharmaceutical care to multidisciplinary teams and individual patients, primarily in the medical high dependency unit but also in acute coronary care and the hyper‑acute stroke unit (HASU). The role offers a unique opportunity to drive service innovation through patient prioritisation, pharmacist prescribing, clinical pharmacy role development and service redesign while ensuring the safe, effective and cost‑efficient use of medicines throughout all areas of practice.
The role also involves highly specialised pharmaceutical input to respiratory services and you will be an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team. You will be responsible for the prescribing and monitoring of complex respiratory outpatient medicines.

EssentialKnowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:
- Master of Pharmacy Degree or Equivalent
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Post-Registration Foundation Programme for Pharmacists (or demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge equivalent to that level)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or RPS Core Advanced Curriculum (or demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge equivalent to that level, or currently working towards this qualification)
- Practice certificate in pharmacist independent prescribing (or currently working towards this qualification)
- Relevant clinical pharmacy experience at a senior level
- Evidence of experience in service provision and development and an ability to examine current practice and develop and implement innovative solutions for improvement
- Member of the Royal College of Pharmacy
- Postgraduate qualification to Masters level in Clinical Pharmacy (or demonstrable expert knowledge to that level)
- Recognised tutor for trainee pharmacists, or pharmacists or technicians undertaking further qualifications.
