Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the clinical development of the Orthopaedic Enhanced Care Unit (ECU) at Chapel Allerton Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Our established four-bedded Enhanced Care Unit currently provides enhanced postoperative care for elective and revision orthopaedic patients requiring a higher level of observation than can be safely delivered on a standard ward.

As part of a significant expansion of the Orthopaedic Service, two additional operating theatres are currently being developed, increasing surgical capacity and enabling the Trust to care for a greater number of patients with increasingly complex needs. As a result, the Enhanced Care Unit will evolve to support patients with a higher acuity and more advanced postoperative care requirements, broadening its existing ceiling of care.

About us

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to delivering the highest quality and safest treatment and care to every patient, every time.

Our vision is to provide the highest quality specialist and integrated care.

We will do this through delivery of our multi-year goals and strategic priorities, which you can read about on this page.

Central to it all is The Leeds Way our values and behaviours that are at the heart of everything we do.

Why you should join our Team

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future direction of the service, ensuring the nursing workforce, clinical governance and operational infrastructure are fully prepared for this exciting transformation.

What you will bring to the role

Working closely with the Clinical Education Team, your initial focus will be to lead the development of the workforce required to safely deliver this enhanced model of care.

You will review and develop the competencies, education pathways and clinical skills required for Registered Nurses working within the Enhanced Care Unit, ensuring the team is equipped to care for patients with increasingly complex clinical needs.

As the service develops, you will work in partnership with the Ward C03 leadership team to provide operational leadership across the ECU, ensuring safe staffing, high-quality patient care and excellent clinical outcomes.

You will be instrumental in preparing the service for increased surgical activity and the introduction of a higher level of enhanced care, supporting the delivery of a modern, responsive and sustainable orthopaedic service.
