We are delighted to advertise this position for a Macmillan Assistant Psychologist to join the psycho-oncology service  service takes a compassionate and person-centered approach to provide specialist psychological support to adults (aged 18 and over) experiencing complex psychological difficulties relating to their diagnosis or treatment, at all stages of the cancer pathway.

As the successful applicant, you will be based at NNUH working within adult services, and will be joining the existing Clinical Psychology team, a small supportive team working across a range of adult and paediatric health psychology specialities. The psychology team meet monthly for professional support and development. The post holder will receive line management and supervision from the Macmillan Clinical Psychologist.

Based within the Oncology Department, you will work alongside the Clinical Psychologist to support the development of a substantive psycho-oncology service  role will also contribute to collaborative working with cancer services across the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group, including James Paget University Hospital, to improve psychological care and support for staff and people affected by cancer across the region.

The service currently offers outpatient psychological assessment and intervention, alongside staff support consultation and training.

  • contribute to a range of service development activities, including service evaluation, clinical audit and quality improvement projects to support a business case for funding of the service longer term.
  • provide administrative support to the Clinical Psychologist, including assisting with referral triage, gathering relevant clinical information, maintaining patient activity records and supporting the management of the service database.

Working under the supervision of the qualified psychologist, and depending on experience and competencies, there will be opportunities to contribute to the delivery of clinical care of patients, which may take the form of supporting delivery of groups, individual intervention, contributing to staff support and assisting with psychologically informed care across the service.

The Assistant Psychologist will be an integral member of the Macmillan funded Psycho-oncology service at NNUH working along side the wider oncology team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to optimise the care and wellbeing of people affected by cancer.
