We are looking for a female Waking Night Care Assistant to support one customer with complex care needs in Crantock. You will be awake and attentive through the night, so that our customer is safe, comfortable and properly looked after hts are the hardest part of living with complex needs. Having the same calm, familiar person there through them changes what the night feels like.

This is a role where you get to know one person really well, and where the quality of your attention matters far more than the number of tasks you get through. This is a role for someone who has done complex care before, for a year or more. Overnight and on your own, you need to walk in already knowing what you are looking at.

The calm and the consistency are the parts we cannot teach, and they matter here more than anything., You are the person our customer relies on overnight:

  • Waking night support in our customer's own home, awake and alert throughout
  • Personal care, given with dignity and respect
  • PEG feeding
  • Suctioning
  • Repositioning and settling our customer comfortably
  • Watching for changes in comfort, breathing and wellbeing, and acting on them
  • Responding calmly whenever our customer needs you
  • Keeping clear, accurate records and handing over anything the wider team needs to know

You will be the only person in the house overnight, so our customer needs to know they can rely on you. Learning their routine, noticing when something is not right, and staying calm when it is not.

What you get
  • £15.46 an hour for weekday waking nights and £15.66 for weekend waking nights
  • 21 hours a week on a settled rota, so you know your nights well in advance
  • One customer, one home, one routine - the consistency that makes this work possible
  • Full induction and specialist complex care training before you work on your own
  • Someone from the team at the end of the phone every night. You will never be left to work something out by yourself at three in the morning
  • Blue Light Card, £100 staff referral scheme, Carer of the Month and annual appraisal recognition
  • Qualified Mental Health First Aiders in the team, wellbeing support, staff socials and charity events, Your complex care experience does not have to have been gained anywhere in particular. It might have come from a spinal or neuro unit, an ICU or hospital ward, children's complex care, a hospice, a learning disability service, live-in care, or from years of looking after a family member at home with a PEG or a tracheostomy.

All of that counts with us, and a varied route counts for more, not less. If you are unsure whether your experience fits, ring us and ask rather than ruling yourself out.
How we will grow you
  • A full induction before you work on your own
  • Specialist complex care training, including PEG feeding and suctioning, taught and signed off by our Registered Nurse
  • Ongoing supervision and regular contact with your local team
  • Support to build on the qualifications you already hold, including NVQs and Diplomas in Health and Social Care
  • Genuine routes into senior Care Expert, supervisory and complex care roles for those who want them
Before you apply
  • This is a female-only role. It is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
  • You will need the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle are essential.
  • DBS checking and references will be undertaken in line with government regulations and recruitment best practices.
  • Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall is an equal opportunities employer.
  • We may close this vacancy early once we find the right person, so do apply soon.
  • At least one year of complex care experience
  • Kind, calm and dependable
  • Confident working through the night and able to stay alert
  • Able to offer quiet reassurance and attentive support
  • Willing to be trained and signed off in PEG feeding and suctioning by our Registered Nurse
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle. There is no public transport to Crantock at these hours
  • The right to work in the UK
Desirable
  • Hands-on experience of PEG feeding or suctioning
  • Experience of waking nights or other night work
  • The Care Certificate, or an NVQ or Diploma in Health and Social Care

Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall helps people carry on living in the place they love most, their own home, and we are rated Outstanding overall by the Care Quality Commission.
