A unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to work with our innovative and evolving Walk-in Service. The pilot service, developed in response to a request from Scottish Government, sets out a rural proofed model designed to relieve pressure on local GP practices across the Western Isles, improve patient access and enhance the resilience of Primary and Urgent Care services.

The service will initially provide same-day urgent care for temporary residents and visitors across the Western Isles, freeing capacity in the current GP Services for Western Isles residents. This pioneering service will be in Ospadal Uibhist agus Bharraigh OUAB, Benbecula with ready access to onsite diagnostic facilities. The walk-in service team will include Primary Care Coordinators, Advance Clinical Practitioner and GP.

The service will be available weekdays from 9am - 5.30pm, offering telephone, Near Me, (Video conference) and face-to-face appointments at the walk-in service clinical hub. For temporary residents, not located in the Uist area, virtual appointments (telephone or Near Me) will be available, and face-to-face appointment will be arranged (if necessary) in an appropriate location. From November 2026, the service will expand to be available as a walk-in provision for residents of North Uist, Benbecula and Sout Uist, as an alternative to attending their own GP Practice.

You will coordinate the access via nine GP practices and walk-in patients, supporting the clinical team to deliver a consistently high standard of patient care.

You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with GP Practice Representatives and Primary Care colleagues to ensure the patients receive appropriate support throughout their service journey.
