Join our GXO Howdens team in our  Hemel Hempstead (HP2 7HZ
)  depot as  Transport Shift Manager (Nights).  Youll be responsible for safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the transport function during your designated shift, ensuring delivery performance, legal compliance, effective people management, and high standards of customer service.
This is a full time, permanent position with core hours Monday to Friday 22.00 PM to 06.00 AM (flexibility required for business needs).

What youll do on a typical day:
Lead shift transport operations, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed safely, legally, on time, and to customer expectations, including real-time monitoring, route replanning, issue resolution, and shift handovers
Ensure full health, safety, and compliance, maintaining adherence to H&S legislation, DVSA, Operator Licence, tachograph, and working time regulations, while promoting a strong safety culture and supporting audits and inspections
Provide people leadership, motivating and engaging drivers and colleagues, managing attendance and resourcing, delivering performance management and development, and supporting disciplinary, grievance, and absence processes
Manage resources and assets effectively, maximising utilisation of drivers, vehicles, trailers, and equipment, and overseeing defects, breakdowns, and maintenance escalation
Drive efficiency and cost control, supporting fuel efficiency, damage reduction, service performance improvement, and operational cost management initiatives
What you need to succeed at GXO:
Proven supervisory experience within a transport environment, with proven people and operational leadership capability
Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance standards, and health & safety requirements, including experience of incident investigation
Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
