Contract:

Fixed term contract subject to one-year probationary period

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Hours:
Full time (evenings/weekends when required)

Role Purpose

The General Manager will provide strong, values-led leadership of yipworld’s day-to-day operations, ensuring the organisation delivers high-quality, safe, and effective services for children, young people, and families.

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the postholder will oversee staff, operational systems, safeguarding, and service delivery. Over time, the role will assume increasing responsibility for operational leadership, enabling the Chief Executive to focus on ambassadorial work, partnerships, fundraising, staff development, and long-term sustainability.

This is a senior leadership role within a community-based organisation with deep local roots and a strong reputation for person-centred, place-based work.

Key

Duties & Responsibilities 1. Operational Leadership
  • Lead the day-to-day operational management of yipworld
  • Ensure effective planning, coordination, and delivery of all services
  • Oversee staff rotas, service cover, and operational priorities
  • Develop, review, and implement operational policies and procedures
  • Line-manage staff and support a positive, inclusive working culture
  • Provide supervision, support, and performance management
  • Support staff wellbeing, development, and training
  • Contribute to recruitment, induction, and workforce planning
3. Safeguarding, Health & Safety & Compliance
  • Act as a senior safeguarding lead for the organisation
  • Ensure child protection, safeguarding, and GIRFEC-aligned practice are embedded
  • Oversee health & safety systems, risk assessments, and incident reporting
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, contractual, and organisational requirements
4. Quality & Customer Experience
  • Promote high standards of customer service and professional practice
  • Respond to feedback, complaints, and service improvement actions
  • Support reflective practice, learning, and continuous improvement
5. Partnerships, Local Networks & Place-Based Working
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners and stakeholders
  • Use local knowledge to inform service development and delivery
  • Represent yipworld positively across local forums and networks
  • Support organisational sustainability through innovation and partnership working
  • Contribute to income generation, funding delivery, and service growth
  • Support long-term planning for organisational resilience
  • Uphold and champion yipworld’s values and ethos
  • Support leadership continuity and succession planning
  • Act as a trusted senior leader, supporting organisational stability
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Senior Operational or management experience
  • Proven people management and leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection
  • Health and safety management experience
  • Experience working with communities or service users
  • Strong organisational and decision-making skills
  • Excellence communication and relationship—building skills
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion and values led practice
  • Driver and access to a car
  • Experience in third sector or community organisations
  • Established local networks (East Ayrshire or similar)
  • Experience supporting sustainability or funding delivery
  • Leadership qualification or relevant CPD
