Job Type: 6-month contract (with a view to go permanent) or permanent from the outset
About the RoleWe are currently recruiting for a skilled and reliable Machinist to join a well‑established engineering team. Based in Barton Under Needwood, with initial training provided in Doncaster (.30 p per mile), this role offers the opportunity to secure a long‑term position within a high‑quality manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to manufacture precision components in line with engineering drawings and strict quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Set up, adjust, and operate CNC and/or manual machines (turning, milling, grinding)
- Interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical specifications
- Monitor machining processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and product quality
- Carry out inspection of finished components using precision measuring equipment (e.g. micrometres, verniers, gauges)
- Make minor program edits or tooling adjustments where required
- Maintain machines and work areas to a high standard of housekeeping (5S)
- Follow all health & safety procedures and company policies
- Work to production targets and deadlines while maintaining high quality standards
- Previous experience within a machining or manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances
- CNC programming experience (desirable but not essential)
- Competent in the use of measuring equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (preferred)
- Relevant machining or CNC certifications (advantageous)
- Competitive hourly rate of £18.79
