Overview
Yard Team Supervisor, Pollington, Goole. 40 hours per week. Marshalls Water Management is a leading manufacturer of precast concrete drainage and bespoke products with sites in Pollington and Mells. Part of the Marshalls Group, a FTSE 250 company. The role supports the Operations Manager to achieve KPIs by cascading objectives to manufacturing teams and fostering a proactive culture across the business.
Responsibilities- Lead the safe and efficient operation of a busy civils and drainage yard, ensuring effective yard utilisation and on-time deliveries.
- Oversee the movement of stock from production into the yard and through to dispatch, including safe loading/unloading of vehicles and use of mobile plant equipment (FLTs, loading shovels, telehandlers).
- Collaborate with production and transport teams to drive performance, reduce waste, and maintain high quality standards across yard activities.
- Manage a team of circa 25 operatives, covering attendance, holidays, training, welfare, and discipline (first-line management).
- Communicate clearly through regular briefings and visible leadership to ensure safe, efficient operation and high housekeeping standards.
- Deliver against KPI targets in a performance-driven environment and promote best working practices.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety and site standards, promoting a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe behaviours.
- Remain hands-on in the yard during busy periods, leading by example and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and site performance.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role within yard, logistics, or manufacturing operations (ideally construction, civils, or heavy industry).
- Experience leading a team of around 25 staff.
- Experience with stock control, dispatch, and yard/warehouse flow.
- Hands-on experience with mobile plant equipment (e.g., FLTs, telehandlers, loading shovels).
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards, including risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; excellent organisational abilities to manage multiple priorities.
- IT skills for operational reporting (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.).
- Knowledge of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and continuous improvement/lean manufacturing techniques (DMAIC) is advantageous.
- IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate and other relevant qualifications are desirable.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Management or a related discipline.
