Job Summary

We are looking for an incredible individual to lead our £5 million campaign restoring and repurposing our historic estate as a world‑class residential centre for creative excellence, education, and innovation in the performing arts.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, self‑directing and confident fundraiser who stands behind our dream and wants to be an integral part of building something important for the future of the performing arts.

We are looking for a practical fundraiser who is not afraid of the number and sees this as a rare opportunity to be creative and have fun building an unconventional, hybrid campaign. Due to the nature and scale of the project, the campaign can be divided into distinct parts and funded through a range of sources, including individual giving, membership schemes, and grants from trusts and foundations.

Specialists in all areas are welcome to apply, but you must be able to develop a strategy which takes all of these fundraising methods into consideration.

We need someone who shares our determination and is as committed as we are to keeping up with the project timeline, and getting Bretforton Grange open. You will lead every aspect of the fundraising campaign, from major gifts and individual philanthropy to community events and naming opportunities. You will work with external consultants running a major National Lottery Heritage Fund bid, oversee a naming / recognition programme working closely with the Director, and find other creative ways to unlock generosity at all levels.

You should inspire all our stakeholders – including the Board of Trustees, the local community and individual philanthropists – drive the momentum forwards and always make sure that fundraising and the project timeline are in perfect alignment, adjusting timelines and communicating with the project team as needed.

We are not only looking for someone to devise a fundraising strategy; we are looking for someone who will make it happen too.

Job Requirements
  • You have raised money before – six‑ or seven‑figure gifts from philanthropists, Trusts & Foundations or corporates, and have experience leading large‑scale blended campaigns.
  • You are kind, but with a steely determination that recognises success depends not only on great ideas but also on the ability to deliver them.
  • You know what it takes to lead a capital campaign from the ground up building and nurturing strong relationships as you go.
  • You are a strategist and a doer, comfortable in the boardroom and pulling on wellies for a community event.
  • You understand that fundraising is, above all, about people and relationships; telling the right story to the right person in a way that inspires them to contribute, so they feel happy and grateful to be part of the endeavour.
  • You sweat the small stuff, whether it’s the accuracy of a budget line or a donor’s preferred title, you understand that care in the little things builds confidence in the big things.
Job Responsibilities
  • Own the £5 Million Goal. You will design the campaign, plan and manage every stage, and deliver the result.
  • Do the maths behind the magic. Cost every strand of the campaign, build a living budget, and make sure we know exactly what we need to spend in order to hit £5 million.
  • Lead the Major Gifts Campaign. You will curate high‑level events to attract major donors and solicit large gifts from a small number of high‑net‑worth individuals.
  • Design and support a multi‑pronged fundraising campaign including the Heritage Lottery bid, recognition programme, major gifts, trusts and foundations, matched funding, community giving, and corporate partnerships.
  • Inspire and persuade. Tell the story of Bretforton Grange & Theatre barn in ways that make people stand behind us and act.
  • Manage and motivate. Lead a small internal team and external consultants and freelancers as needed, including grant writers and volunteers, ensuring everyone is speaking the same language.
