Shipston Home Nursing is a charity, providing palliative and end-of-life care to patients and families when they need it most. We are seeking a compassionate

Night Nurse to join our dedicated team, delivering outstanding care and comfort throughout the night.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support patients with complex needs, ensuring dignity, symptom control, and emotional reassurance during vulnerable hours.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who:

Is a Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN/RNLD) with a valid NMC PIN

Has experience in palliative care, oncology, hospice, or community nursing

Demonstrates excellent symptom management skills

Is compassionate, calm, and emotionally resilient

Communicates sensitively with patients and families

Can work independently while being part of a wider team

Experience with syringe drivers and end-of-life care planning is highly desirable.

As a Night Nurse, you will:

Deliver high-quality, person-centred palliative and end-of-life care

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans

Administer medications, including syringe drivers and controlled drugs

Provide emotional support to patients and their families

Work closely with on-call doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team

Maintain accurate clinical documentation

Ensure a calm, safe, and supportive overnight environment

During night shifts, you will often take a leading clinical role, so confidence, autonomy, and sound clinical judgement are essential.

Shipston Home Nursing is a community-based hospice-at-home charity that provides palliative and end-of-life nursing care to adults living with incurable or life-limiting illnesses in Shipston-on-Stour and surrounding villages such as Wellesbourne, Kineton and Bidford.

The Charity's team of registered general nurses and experienced care staff deliver free care in peoples own homes, helping to manage symptoms, provide pain relief, offer emotional support to patients and families, and enable people to remain comfortable and dignified in familiar surroundings.

Shipston Home Nursing accepts referrals directly from patients, families, carers, GPs and health professionals, and is largely funded by donations, grants and community fundraising so that its services can be offered free of charge to those in need.

Job responsibilities

Job title:
Bank Nurse Registered Nurse

Location:
Shipston-on-Stouroffice but care delivered in patients own homes (typically Shipston, Kineton,Wellesbourne, Bidford and neighbouring villages)

Reports to:
Head of Nursing

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

These responsibilities will be carried out under the guidance of the Clinical lead and/or the Duty Coordinator for theshift.

Gainsan understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and culturalneeds of patients requiring specialist palliative care and their families/carers.

Ensures provision of appropriate clinical support topalliative care patients and their families/carers within their own homes.

Documents and evaluates care given and discussesprogress, condition and treatment with the Duty Coordinator alerting them ofthe patients changing health care needs.

Complies with protocols and guidelines to deliver careas specified in the Charity's policies and procedures.

Communicates effectively and liaises where appropriate with the District Nurses &Community Nursing Teams to receive and provide accurate and timely reports ofany changes in the condition of the patient.

Developsa positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and their family/carers are met.

Promotesa safe environment for all patients, visitors and staff.

Reportsto the Head of Nursing or, in her absence, one of the identified Nurse Coordinators.
