Registered Nurse - Midgley Ward

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our friendly, supportive and proactive team on Midgley ward. We are an acute medical ward with a respiratory speciality.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work as a registered nurse within a team responsible to the team leader/shift coordinator caring for patients and their carer's.
  • Utilise learning opportunities to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and their carer's, and develop a broad spectrum of clinical proficiency to deliver nursing care.
  • Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carer's, visitors and staff.
  • Comply with the Trust's values and expected behaviours.
  • Understand, interpret and nurse patients on non‑invasive ventilation and high‑flow nasal oxygen.
  • Develop time‑management skills and the ability to prioritise nursing care for a group of patients.
  • Show flexibility to meet the needs of the service.
  • Document the process of care effectively according to the Record Guidance for Nurses and Midwives (NMC 2010) and the Trust policy.
  • Develop an awareness of self, knowledge of the limits of one's competence, and the ability to seek advice and support to look after self effectively.
  • Assist with teaching patients and carers, including explanation and expansion about diagnosis, preparation for investigations, treatment and discharge in accordance with the treatment plan recorded in the patients' records.
Priority Candidates

Priority will be given to applicants with recognised 'Priority' or 'At Risk' status, including NHS staff identified across Devon.

Person Specification Qualifications and training
  • Registered Nurse Adult
  • Current/awaiting registration with NMC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of working in a ward environment
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload for self and others
  • Knowledge of Respiratory conditions, NIV/CPAP
  • Experience of working in an acute environment
Specific Skills
  • Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care
  • Management of an acutely ill patient
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members
  • Evidence of working well within a team
  • Ability to demonstrate motivation
  • Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure
  • Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise own workload
  • Evidence of commitment to customer care initiatives
  • Awareness of quality issues
