An exciting fixed-term opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Leader on Ward 3, a day surgical unit at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
It is a full‑time role covering Monday to Sunday; a flexible working approach is required.
This position is temporary, covering maternity leave for 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns, with potential to become permanent.
Ward 3 is a fast‑paced day case unit covering elective surgery, including General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Breast, Colorectal, Vascular surgery, Ophthalmology, and Pain.
Candidates should be dynamic, highly motivated, caring, and committed to delivering patient‑centred care.
Responsibilities- Support the Ward Leader in leading the ward and driving high standards of care.
- Improve clinical pathways for patients based on up‑to‑date evidence‑based practice.
- Work under pressure and manage difficult situations effectively, with support from the Ward Leader and the Surgical Matron.
- Coordinate ward activities, ensuring smooth operation and delivery of patient care.
- Experienced qualified nurse with ward management or coordination experience.
- Knowledgeable in elective surgery across a variety of specialities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high standards of care, putting the patient at the heart of everything.
