Senior Nurse Endoscopist

Role Overview

A Nurse Endoscopist will provide high‑quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy within the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Endoscopy unit, working closely with gastroenterology and surgical teams.

• Vet referrals for outpatient endoscopy, coordinating with administrative staff to ensure timely booking.
• Deliver teaching on JAG accredited courses for internal and external trainees.
• Mentor and manage training of new nurse and clinical endoscopists at the trust.
• Act as a role model and mentor to junior members of the endoscopy and nursing teams.
• Work independently as a practitioner in performing diagnostic endoscopy, demonstrating high levels of clinical judgment and decision‑making.
• Implement and provide clinical teaching and education to medical and nursing colleagues to enhance practice and improve patient care.
• Undertake referral vetting for patients requiring upper or lower GI endoscopy.
• Identify opportunities for audits and benchmarking to improve the service.
• Take an active role in training new Nurse Endoscopists and clinicians as part of the Eastern region endoscopy academy.

Band 8a: a qualified Nurse Endoscopist who has completed both upper and lower GI training and is working as an independent practitioner.

Experience in diagnostic endoscopy and a commitment to teaching and leadership are expected.
