Combined sexual health nurse and health adviser

The closing date is 12 July 2026.

This is an exciting 12‑month secondment in Sexual Health at Brighton SHAC. The role consists of 22.5 hours of sexual health nurse time and 15 hours of sexual health adviser time, making a full‑time post. Prior experience in an NHS sexual health setting and UK NMC registration are required.

Main duties of the job
  • Provision of evidence‑based, holistic sexual health and contraception care to all patients, including history taking, assessment of needs (contraception, pregnancy, risk‑taking behaviour, alcohol and drug use, mental health), venepuncture, genital examinations and specimen collection.
  • Facilitation of asymptomatic pathways, diagnostic microscopy, and discussion of results with patients to develop management plans.
  • Administration and supply of medicines under PGD or non‑medical prescribing.
  • Facilitation of meeting identified contraception needs through own practice or referral to colleagues.
  • Provide sexual health treatments and health promotion signposting to other services.
  • Support the Senior Health Adviser and the health adviser team in clinics, patient education, partner notification, and safeguarding assessments for vulnerable groups.
  • Assistance in safeguarding referrals and ensuring appropriate support is in place.
  • Participation in development, implementation and evaluation of nurse‑managed care for service users.
  • Management of identified members of the team as required.
Person Specification
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN).
  • Post‑graduate band 5 experience.
  • Experience working in an NHS sexual health service.
  • Contraception knowledge and skills.
  • Safeguarding experience.
  • Venipuncture and microscopy skills.
  • Health‑related degree.
  • Counselling certificate or qualification.
  • Experience managing safeguarding cases.
