Endoscopy Nursing AssociateClosing date: 02 August 2026
Responsibilities- Act as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective, safe, high‑quality, compassionate and person‑centred care within the endoscopy setting.
- Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs for patients within endoscopy.
- Assist the Registered General Nurse in providing a safe and caring environment.
- Serve as a role model to colleagues, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.
- Contribute positively to the department and the organisation.
- Work within clearly defined accountability frameworks, recognising the boundaries of the Nursing Associate role.
- Deliver a high standard of clinical and therapeutic care within endoscopy, in accordance with instructions and training received.
- Communicate with patients and their carers using tact, diplomacy, empathy and reassurance, especially in difficult or stressful situations or where barriers to understanding exist.
- Respect the diversity of individual service users, ensuring that their dignity is maintained throughout all activities.
- Assist patients to be as comfortable as possible, helping with positional changes during procedures and performing manual handling activities where required.
- Respect the dignity and privacy of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures and involve them in decision‑making.
- Assist in therapeutic and basic endoscopy procedures within own limitations, working towards required competence under the guidance of the Endoscopy Professional Development Team.
- Monitor patient vital signs after procedures and ensure patients meet discharge criteria.
- Work countywide when required and participate in the Acute GI Bleed on‑call rota.
- Assist in the induction, supervision and training of Healthcare Support Workers, student nurses and Nursing Associates.
- Demonstrate the ability to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse or Allied Health Professional in charge, in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies.
- Undertake core competencies outlined in the job description, with duties varying according to agreed extended competencies.
- Complete administrative and clerical tasks associated with patient care to facilitate smooth ward/department operations.
- Supervise, assess and mentor Healthcare Support Workers, Trainee Nursing Associates and other unregistered staff; assist in supervising other healthcare students where appropriate.
- Assist with patient assessment, communicate findings to the registered nurse and take appropriate actions.
- Correctly label requested specimens and ensure transportation to the appropriate department.
- Obtain and document urinalysis results when required for specific procedures.
- Provide health education, support and encouragement for patients to meet their own health and wellbeing needs.
- Assist patients with positioning and comfort using appropriate equipment, involving them in shared decision‑making and obtaining consent before nursing procedures.
- Work cooperatively within the multi‑disciplinary team, assisting nursing and other clinical staff to deliver a high standard of holistic, patient‑centred care.
- Professional registration as an NMC Nursing Associate.
- Interest in Endoscopy Nursing.
- Effective communication skills with evidence of good interpersonal skills.
- Competence in venepuncture and cannulation.
