Paediatric Junior Sister/Charge Nurse

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and dedicated Children's Sister who will be working with an amazing multidisciplinary team, including youth workers, mental health teams and safeguarding nurses. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team assisting in providing high quality paediatric care and excellent patient experience.

The post holder will be responsible for providing safe and effective care to all children (aged 0‑18) requiring admission on the Children's Unit/Paediatric Assessment Unit.

You are also responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence based individualized patient care within the boundaries of your role. The post holder will contribute to the continuing development of standards of care including development of nursing standards and monitoring of outcomes, assessment and implementation of care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing safe and effective care to children and young people without direct supervision, ensuring the day‑to‑day management of the unit meets service needs. The post holder will ensure that all staff management will be completed in a timely way.

responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate compassionate nursing care to meet the patient's individualized needs.
  • Ensure the highest standards of care and safety are maintained.
  • To support the nurse in charge with the day‑to‑day planning, the delivery of a high‑quality nursing service and the continuous improvement of that service.
  • SBAR multidisciplinary team on the clinical condition of patients using the PEWs (Paediatric Early Warning Scores).
  • Co‑ordinate the effective admission, transfer and discharge of individual children in line with Trust policy.
  • Act as advocate for the children in their care and ensure the voice of the child is heard.
  • Adhere to the Trusts safeguarding policies and procedures and ensure that knowledge and practice enables children to be safeguarded.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • First level Registered Children's Nurse
  • Current/Live registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • EPALS
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development or other training relevant to role
Experience
  • Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing knowledge and practice after qualification and preceptorship
  • Experience of working withing a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Competent in all aspects of acute paediatric nursing including HDU
  • Participation in audit and research
Knowledge
  • Good team member, able to complement group dynamics and work autonomously.
  • Flexible approach to work and routine shift patterns and area of work
  • Willing to work in other areas of the Trust or Trust-wide as and when required to do so
  • To have knowledge of, and follow local policies and procedures regarding acting appropriately to protect vulnerable adults and children at risk
