Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self‑motivated Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our supportive, experienced small team.

The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills in order to provide advice, support and information from the time of the diagnosis of a skin cancer and throughout the patients care pathway. This will be both within a clinic setting and also via telephone.

As part of the skin cancer CNS team you will be expected to liaise with the Leeds Cancer Centre and participate in the recording of holistic needs assessments and the other stipulated assessments of cancer patients. You will possess excellent organisational skills and will be capable of working as an integral part of a busy multidisciplinary team as well as being able to work independently using your own initiative.

Supporting skin cancer patients having radiotherapy or immunotherapy treatments is an expected part of the role.

Main duties of the job What you will bring to the role

Previous experience of working with skin cancer patients is desirable however not essential as full training would be provided for the right candidate. Previous dermatology or oncology experience would also be desirable. Opportunities for further professional development will be available.

Subsequent to training, you would be expected to see and assess skin cancer patients in the fast‑track clinics and see patients for diagnosis and follow up (with Consultant supervision). You would also be expected to carry out telephone consultations for patients coming for surgery for suspected skin cancers. After training, you would be expected to manage the histopathology results of these patients, again with Consultant support when needed.
