Beeston Village Surgery is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Practice Nurse to take on a key clinical leadership role within our forward-thinking, community-based GP practice. Serving a patient population of just under 8,000, you will play a vital role in delivering and overseeing safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care. Working collaboratively with both clinical and administrative teams, you will provide strong, visible leadership to the nursing team, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centred services.
You will also contribute to service development, clinical governance, and continuous quality improvement across the practice
Main duties of the job Deliver evidence-based nursing care for patients with acute and chronic conditions Lead and manage nurse-led clinics (including Asthma and COPD) Perform patient reviews in line with protocols and best practice Provide:
- Immunisations and vaccinations
- Cervical cytology
- HRT management
- Wound care
- Travel health advice
- Lifestyle support
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with NMC standards
- Supervise, support, and mentor students
- Participate in audits, protocol development, and service evaluation, Clinical
- Lead the delivery of nursing services
- Provide high-quality care for acute and long-term conditions
- Triage and prioritise urgent cases, initiating emergency care when required
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records
- Prescribe within competence (if qualified)
- Deliver care aligned with national and local guidelines
- Undertake procedures including:
- Cervical cytology
- Immunisations and vaccinations
- Wound care
- Venepuncture
- Blood pressure and spirometry monitoring
- Travel health consultations
- Health screening and lifestyle advice
- Teaching & Mentorship
- Support and mentor students and junior staff
- Managerial
- Act as a role model and team leader
- Lead on protocol development and service improvement
- Contribute to meetings, audits, and quality assurance initiatives
- Support performance targets and contractual requirements

- Maintain NMC registration and CPD
- Comply with mandatory training requirements
- Work within the NMC Code and NHS guidelines

- Handle sensitive information in line with GDPR

- At least 2 years recent experience in primary or community care
- Experience managing chronic conditions in nurse-led settings
- Strong understanding of general practice nursing
- Experience implementing clinical protocols
- Skilled in immunisations, wound care, cytology, and ABPI
- Experience supervising and developing staff
- Strong organisational and independent working skills
- Teaching and mentoring experience
- Excellent communication skills, Service development or protocol writing
- Leadership or team management experience
- Familiarity with clinical systems and digital tools, Diploma or Degree in Adult Nursing
- Current NMC registration
- Clinical supervision training
- Enhanced DBS clearance, Specialist qualifications (e.g., asthma, diabetes, cytology, family planning)
- Travel medicine qualification
- Independent/Supplementary Prescriber
- Community Specialist Practitioner qualification
- Teaching/Mentorship qualification, Informal meetings prior to interviews welcome.
