Practice Nurse

A Practice Nurse post in the general practice nursing team at Emmer Green Surgery, a practice of about 12,000 patients with two practice nurses, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and three healthcare assistants and phlebotomists. The work centres on treatment room care and managing patients with long-term conditions, including injections under patient group directions, pathology requests and NHS health checks. Hours are negotiable from a minimum of 26.5 a week, and newly qualified nurses are considered, with further training offered.

Current UK professional registration as a registered nurse is required.

• Provide routine nursing care within the treatment room
• Identify, manage and support patients at risk of long-term conditions
• Develop, implement and embed health promotion and wellbeing programmes
• Administer adult and child injections under PGDs and PSDs
• Request pathology services and process results
• Maintain accurate clinical records, using read codes effectively
• Perform new patient health checks and NHS health screening checks
• Take part in national immunisation and screening programmes
• Comply with QOF, enhanced services and medicines management initiatives
• Prepare and maintain treatment environments and equipment
• Support and guide healthcare assistants
• Assist GPs with procedures and chaperone for intimate examinations

• RGN nursing qualification

• Current UK professional registration as a registered nurse (NMC)

• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Able to accurately record details of treatments in patient records

• Knowledge or experience of working in primary care
• Respiratory experience
• Wound care experience
